Industrial robots operating near humans are generally subject to established safety standards developed initially for fixed robotic arms and collaborative robots — but humanoid robots' unique combination of mobility, human-like scale, and general-purpose task flexibility doesn't map perfectly onto those existing frameworks.

Established robotics safety standards typically address force and speed limits during human contact, required safety zones and sensing, and emergency stop requirements — a solid starting foundation, but not always designed with a walking, general-purpose humanoid's specific failure modes in mind.
Where the gaps remain
Standards bodies and industry groups are actively working on humanoid-specific safety certification frameworks, but as of 2026 this remains a developing area rather than a fully mature, universally adopted certification regime — worth factoring into any serious deployment planning rather than assuming existing industrial robot standards fully cover the new risks.
