Simulating Your Robot Before You Build It
The cheapest mistake you'll ever make is one that happens in software instead of on your workbench.
Physics simulation lets you test a robot's mechanical design and control approach before cutting a single physical part, catching design flaws — insufficient joint torque, an unstable mass distribution, a control bug — far more cheaply than discovering them after building real hardware.
What to actually simulate
Modeling your intended joint torques and gear ratios against your robot's actual estimated mass and dimensions will tell you early whether your actuator choices are even physically sufficient for the motion you're planning — a check well worth doing before ordering parts, not after.
The honest limits of simulation
Simulation won't perfectly predict real-world behavior — friction, backlash, and sensor noise are always simplified to some degree — so treat good simulated performance as a reason for cautious optimism, not proof the design will work exactly as modeled once built.
