ASIMO

The humanoid that defined the category in the public imagination for nearly two decades, retired in 2018.

For most of the 2000s and 2010s, ASIMO essentially was "the humanoid robot" in mainstream public awareness — running, climbing stairs, and pouring drinks in demos years before today's commercial wave existed.

Honda formally retired ASIMO's development program in 2018, redirecting the underlying research into mobility assistance and disaster-response robotics rather than continuing it as a standalone humanoid product.
