Two of the most closely watched humanoid programs, built around noticeably different bets.

Tesla's Optimus and Figure's Figure 03 are both frequently cited as leading US humanoid programs, but they reflect different starting points — Tesla brings in-house manufacturing scale, battery, and AI experience from its car business, while Figure has built its program from the ground up as a dedicated humanoid robotics company partnered with outside AI and manufacturing partners.

Manufacturing philosophy

Tesla has talked publicly about applying automotive-style vertical integration and mass-manufacturing discipline to Optimus, leaning on its existing factory infrastructure and supply chain relationships. Figure has instead emphasized rapid iteration and close, deliberate partnerships (including with outside AI labs) for perception and control software.

What to actually watch

For either program, the more informative signals are deployment hours on real production lines, disclosed autonomy rates (versus teleoperation) on specific tasks, and unit cost trajectory over time — all more meaningful than any single demo video, however polished.
